Douglas Valley Lions Club - Lions are groups of individuals who join together in Clubs and endeavour to meet many of the challenges faced by the vulnerable in society who are less able, less advantaged, and/or have special needs – this is done within local, national, and international communities. The Room at the Top is Newburgh’s own folk club offering an evening of any type of acoustic music or poetry, held at the Red Lion, Newburgh every Monday (except Bank Holidays) from 8.15pm to 10.30pm. All welcome, whether you play, sing, read or simply sit back and enjoy the evening. From 10.30pm till 11pm we run a session where people who don’t perform in public can join in with some well-known songs to improve their singing and playing. Newburgh Women’s Institute: Meets at 7.30pm on third Monday of the month in Newburgh School for interesting talks on a wide range of subjects, followed by refreshments and chat. Outings to theatres, concerts, stately homes, gardens and a summer mystery tour with a meal out. WI book group meets at 8pm on the first Monday of the month. Parbold and Newburgh Garden Society: Meets monthly on Wednesdays at Parbold WI Hall. Speakers on topics to help you manage and enjoy your garden. Annual plant sale in May offering annual and hardy plants raised locally – many by the Society’s members – and sold at very reasonable prices. Society always willing to help with gardeners’ problems.
